Growth Story · Chapter 1

Veinwalker Assessment: every Aniimo title promotion, from Wally to Lita

“Veinwalker Assessment” is the first chapter of the Growth Story. It gathers your title promotion assessments: Dr. Lewis calls you, a senior student tests you in battle somewhere in the world, then you take a theory quiz at the Outpost. Six promotions, from Student II to Trailblazer I, followed by two assessments with Instructor Lita. Each promotion unlocks a new way to make your Aniimo stronger.

  • Where: a different region for each promotion (Sea of Flowers, Beast Fang Ridge, Berylline Vale, Rosetower Woods, Zephyrus Landbridge, Tideblossom Coast), then the Polaris Institute in Astra for Lita. Quizzes take place at the Outpost.
  • How it starts: by progressing through Elite Training, which Dr. Lewis opens up for you at the end of main story chapter 2. Once you finish the required courses and reach the requested level, BINI #9 receives Dr. Lewis’s call.
  • Prerequisites: the required Elite Training courses and the level the game displays for each assessment.
  • Sections: Dewdrop Crystal’s Resonance · Legacy’s Protection · Stardust’s Blessing · Core’s Nurture · Ancient Lumin · Meaning of Exploration · Starlight’s Witness · Starlight’s Glory.
  • Characters: Dr. Lewis, senior students Wally, Jilly, Loulla, Aster, Wendell and Cecelia, Instructor Lita, and your companion Helion or Lunara.
  • Rewards: every promotion gives 400 Safaris, 50,000 Credits, 20 Aniipod Megas and 50 Sparkling Crystals, plus section-specific extras. The final assessment gives you a Prismana Sherro.

How every promotion works: you answer Dr. Lewis’s call, meet the senior student in their region, face them in battle, head back to the Outpost and pass the theory quiz. Dr. Lewis then explains the feature your new rank unlocks.

1. Promotion: Dewdrop Crystal’s Resonance

Rank earned: Student II. Assessor: Senior Wally, in the Sea of Flowers (level 20 to 29 region).

Wally is so absorbed in his research that he doesn’t even notice you. He is studying traces a Flutternym left on the ground, where Vein energy has condensed, but he has forgotten what the phenomenon is called. You look around too, then contact Dr. Lewis: these are Dewdrop Crystals, condensed Vein energy that helps Aniimo grow. Wally finally remembers you’re there for your assessment. Along the way, his Irisal, Twirly, tells you he forgets everything except his data and his partner.

After the battle, your companion remembers a skill that recharges energy: Sun-Kissed for Helion, Moon-Washed for Lunara. The quiz covers growth methods, Aniimo ecology and energy recovery in battle.

Step by step

  1. Answer Dr. Lewis’s call, then go find Wally in the Sea of Flowers.
  2. Talk to him, then look around for clues and help him out a little more.
  3. Contact Dr. Lewis to learn what Wally is studying, then pass the answer on.
  4. Challenge Wally and complete the assessment.
  5. Return to the Outpost, report in and pass the quiz. If you get something wrong, you can retake it whenever you like.
  6. Talk with Dr. Lewis about what you learned.

What it unlocks: Resonance. It strengthens an Aniimo with Dewdrop Crystals, and each Resonance can raise its Star Rank.

Section rewards: 400 Safaris, 50,000 Credits, 20 Aniipod Megas, 50 Sparkling Crystals, 100 Breezy Plains Dewdrop Crystals, 2 Light Stones.

2. Promotion: Legacy’s Protection

Rank earned: Student III. Assessor: Jilly, leader of a field research team at Beast Fang Ridge (level 31 to 36 region).

Dr. Lewis describes Jilly as a respected researcher and a formidable fighter. You find her and her team gathered around an ancient chest that gives off energy and refuses to open. You touch it, the energy seeps out and the lid opens by itself. Inside is a Ferocious Fang, a high-quality Held Item. Jilly offers it to you if you pass the assessment.

After your win, your companion suggests a skill that can BREAK a target: Holy Storm for Helion, Lunar Eclipse for Lunara. The quiz covers where Dewdrop Crystals come from, regional collection badges and the BREAK mechanic.

At the end, Dr. Lewis announces a reward for your discoveries in the Starfall Valley ruins: a Prismana Aniimo egg, born of the Prismana Flow at the previous Bloom Festival, which you pick from the Institute’s reserves. For help choosing, read our best Prismana Aniimo to pick.

Step by step

  1. Answer Dr. Lewis’s call and go find Jilly at Beast Fang Ridge.
  2. Ask her what happened, then inspect the chest for clues.
  3. Discuss the item found in the chest with Jilly.
  4. Challenge Jilly and complete the assessment: the Ferocious Fang is yours.
  5. Return to the Outpost, report in and complete the quiz.
  6. Listen to Dr. Lewis explain Held Items.

What it unlocks: Held Items. They are relics of Idyll’s ancient civilization that contain refined Vein energy. You can only equip them from Student III onward, and their effects vary a lot: Jilly and her team stress that a good match matters most.

Section rewards: 400 Safaris, 50,000 Credits, 20 Aniipod Megas, 50 Sparkling Crystals, plus the Ferocious Fang from Jilly.

3. Promotion: Stardust’s Blessing

Rank earned: Wayfarer I. Assessor: Loulla, from the Pathfinding Department, in Berylline Vale (level 41 to 48 region), at night.

Dr. Lewis hands you an invitation to a midnight concert. Loulla believes big exams call for big celebrations, so before the assessment you watch her “supergroup” rehearse. Her Stellarys fills the sky with shooting stars, her Witchin hits the high notes and her Fragrancier dances through waves of perfume. You notice that each of them seems to have become exactly what it wanted to be. Loulla keeps the secret until after the battle.

The secret is Star Dust, which she gives you. Dr. Lewis confirms it is only awarded to those who overcome Idyll’s Alpha Aniimo, and that it lets even an Aniimo with ordinary Potential rival naturally gifted ones. Loulla adds that the rarer Star Sand and Starcryst Essence work even better. The quiz covers where Held Items come from, Sparkling Aniimo and healing allies.

Step by step

  1. Answer Dr. Lewis’s call: he gives you the Midnight Concert Invitation.
  2. Go to Berylline Vale, talk to Loulla, then switch to night.
  3. Join the midnight concert, then give Loulla your thoughts.
  4. Battle Loulla, then keep talking to her: she gives you 10 Star Dust.
  5. Prepare for the theory assessment at the Outpost and pass the quiz.
  6. Show the Star Dust to Dr. Lewis, who explains how to use it.

What it unlocks: using Star Dust from your terminal. The details are in our Potential and Capability Awakening guide. At this rank, the Institute shifts from protecting you to supporting you: from now on you travel farther, on your own.

Section rewards: 400 Safaris, 50,000 Credits, 20 Aniipod Megas, 50 Sparkling Crystals, plus Loulla’s 10 Star Dust.

4. Promotion: Core’s Nurture

Rank earned: Wayfarer II. Assessor: Aster, from the Pathfinding Department, at the foot of the white tower in Rosetower Woods (level 44 to 51 region).

Aster studies how the environment affects Grass-type Aniimo. To be on time, he set off two days early… and you find him asleep on the ground, muttering light and temperature readings. Queenie, his Melloblum, wakes him with a poke. A perfectionist, he then spends a very long time fine-tuning his team’s Held Items before the battle.

Once defeated, Aster explains Cores: if Held Items are fertile soil, Cores are the light and nutrients that let them release advanced effects. He gives you some to try and promises a rematch, with a badge on the line, once his items are upgraded. The quiz covers Star Dust, Wild Surges and Besauce, an unusual Aniimo.

Step by step

  1. Answer Dr. Lewis’s call and go see Aster, who should be waiting at the foot of the white tower in Rosetower Woods.
  2. Examine Aster, then talk to him once he’s awake.
  3. Wait for him to finish his preparations, then challenge him.
  4. Talk to him again: he gives you 20 Basic Held Item Cores.
  5. Return to the Outpost, find Dr. Lewis and pass the quiz. From this rank on, questions cover everything you’ve experienced in Idyll, not just your training.
  6. Keep talking to Dr. Lewis: BINI #9 walks you through using Cores.

What it unlocks: upgrading Held Items with Cores.

Section rewards: 400 Safaris, 50,000 Credits, 20 Aniipod Megas, 50 Sparkling Crystals, 5 Basic Held Item Cores, plus the 20 from Aster.

5. Promotion: Ancient Lumin

Rank earned: Wayfarer III. Assessor: Wendell, who studies the Cozites of Zephyrus Landbridge (level 48 to 58 region).

Wendell greets you eagerly: all of Astra has heard about you. He shows you the Cozites building huge nests together, admits he isn’t much of a fighter, then runs your assessment. Right after, he drops his disguise: he is one of the black-robed figures. He asks you for an extra match, “out of curiosity”.

Once beaten, he introduces himself as a member of the Umbral Society, a group that wants to restore Idyll’s former glory. He speaks of “two moons” destined to light up the sky, you and a mysterious “Saintess”, and claims your other companion is now with her. He uploads your results himself, then vanishes before your eyes, leaving the real Wendell dazed. Dr. Lewis confirms the impersonation: the Institute is investigating, the Umbral Society seems old and well informed about ancient Idyll, and the Institute’s assessments are in fact based on an old Idyllian custom of traveling the land to strengthen one’s bond with the Veins.

The quiz covers Cores, Prismana Aniimo and setting up the Holo-Battle Sim. Wayfarer III is the highest Wayfarer title: next comes the path of the Trailblazer. Finally, Dr. Lewis asks you to look into a new trend: Pathfinders teaming up to seek rare Aniimo eggs on distant islands, the Lost Isles. Your rank now lets you take part. Later, back at Zephyrus Landbridge, you meet the real Wendell, recovered and determined to defend his badge.

Step by step

  1. Answer Dr. Lewis’s call and visit Wendell in Zephyrus Landbridge.
  2. Challenge Wendell and complete the assessment, then talk to him.
  3. Defeat the mysterious figure, then ask about their intentions.
  4. Return to the Outpost and report to Dr. Lewis.
  5. Complete the theory assessment, then talk to Dr. Lewis.

What it unlocks: access to the Lost Isles expeditions, alongside other Pathfinders.

Section rewards: 400 Safaris, 50,000 Credits, 20 Aniipod Megas, 50 Sparkling Crystals, 2 Simple Backpacks, 2 Attack Amplifiers, 2 Protective Units.

6. Promotion: Meaning of Exploration

Rank earned: Trailblazer I. Assessor: Senior Cecelia, from the Pathfinding Department, on Tideblossom Coast (level 54 to 61 region).

The Trailblazer title is reserved for those who uncover unknown wonders in Idyll. Cecelia is supposed to be studying water quality… and you find her surfing, which she very seriously calls field research. After the battle, she praises how quickly you explored the Breezy Plains, tells you about jellyfish swarms offshore and stars that sink to the bottom of Echoback Landing’s waters before rising again as Shellies, and advises you to enjoy the journey: exploration has no finish line.

The quiz covers Aniimo team combinations, Psyche Fruits and advanced Held Item sets.

Step by step

  1. Answer Dr. Lewis’s call and go find Cecelia on Tideblossom Coast.
  2. Talk to her, challenge her and complete the assessment, then talk to her again.
  3. Find Dr. Lewis at the Outpost and pass the quiz.
  4. Listen to what else Dr. Lewis has to say.

What it unlocks: the Institute’s Holo-Battle Interlink, a simulator where you fight alongside other students.

Section rewards: 400 Safaris, 50,000 Credits, 20 Aniipod Megas, 50 Sparkling Crystals.

7. Assessment: Starlight’s Witness

Where: the Polaris Institute, in Astra. Assessor: Instructor Lita.

Lita calls, curious to see how far you’ve come. At the Battle Art Department, she lists everything you’ve achieved since the cavern where you met: Resonance, Held Items, Capability Awakening, the Holo-Battle Sim, the Lost Isles eggs, the Holo-Battle Interlink. Then she calls out her partner Lumin, the Sherro who fought by your side that day… this time against you, in Boomblast Arena.

After this sparring match, Lita showers you with praise, admits Dr. Lewis had a hand in calling you in, and offers her help against tough opponents. Dr. Lewis then congratulates you in person: as far as he’s concerned, nobody at the Institute knows the Breezy Plains better than you.

Step by step

  1. Answer Lita’s call.
  2. Go to the Institute’s Battle Art Department and find Lita.
  3. Head to Boomblast Arena and win the battle.
  4. Talk to Lita, then go find Dr. Lewis at the Institute.

Section rewards: 400 Safaris, 50,000 Credits, 20 Aniipod Megas, 50 Sparkling Crystals.

8. Assessment: Starlight’s Glory

Where: Boomblast Arena, in Astra.

You come back to challenge Lita for her badge, as agreed. She then has one last request: that Lumin travel with you from now on. He has fought at her side for years, but he wants to go back and explore Idyll, and Lita’s work at the Institute keeps her from going. She officially entrusts him to you.

Step by step

  1. Talk to Lita at Boomblast Arena and agree to set out with Lumin.

Section reward: a Prismana Sherro.
