Aniimo training guide: levels, Resonance stars, Potential and Held Items
To make an Aniimo stronger, level it with EXP items (never above your own level), add Resonance stars with Dewdrop Crystals, raise its Potential with Star Dust and equip Held Items. Materials mostly come from defeated Alphas, and Inheritance moves progress to a less developed Aniimo of the same family.

The Aniimo Management screen
Open it from the menu (shortcut P on PC). It lists every Aniimo you have caught; from here you train them and pick which Aniimo and skills to bring into battle or exploration.

- Party: you can deploy up to 4 Aniimo at once. Drag an Aniimo onto a slot to deploy it.
- Pathfinding setup: the tab at the top right lets you assign an Aniimo to each ability (climb, swim, fly). The game then automatically switches to the right Aniimo for the terrain.
- Bottom buttons: Organize, Filter/Sort, Storage Actions and Manage. Organize sorts the current storage or several at once (locked storages are left alone). Filter/Sort only changes the view, not where Aniimo sit in storage.
Storage limit
A Pathfinder can only keep a limited number of Aniimo. BINI #9 warns you when 10, then 1, open slot remains. With full storage you can’t catch anything, Alphas included, until you make room. The Advanced and Collector’s editions of the Companion Handbook raise this capacity.
Levelling up
- In Aniimo Management, select the Aniimo, then Level Up on its Attributes screen.
- Use EXP items. If an evolution needs one more level, the Quick Level Up button takes care of it.
Aniimo also earn EXP from quests, open-world battles and catching. The higher the level, the bigger the combat stat boosts.
Evolution
On the Attributes screen, press Evolve to see the evolution path. A marker appears right on the avatar of an Aniimo that is ready to evolve. Select an evolution to view its requirements: they only need to be completed once.
Each species page lists the details, for example Emberpup’s evolution requirements. Full walkthrough: how to evolve an Aniimo.
Potential and base attributes
After a catch, report it at an Outpost’s Research Console: the Aniimo gets an Innate Potential rating in 4 tiers: Common, Good, Elite, Perfect. The higher the tier, the better its starting attributes.
On the Attributes screen, the six-stat chart shows each attribute’s Potential:
- white is Innate Potential, set when you obtain the Aniimo;
- yellow is Acquired Potential, which Capability Awakening raises.
Each Potential can reach level 20. At the same level, higher Potential means a higher attribute.
Capability Awakening
Unlocked when you reach Wayfarer I, under Aniimo Training → Capability.
- Spend Star Dust and other items to raise the Acquired Potential of the chosen attribute.
- Innate Potential only goes up through special methods, such as Capafruit.
- Innate + Acquired can never exceed 20. Later increases need more, and rarer, items.
- The number of Awakenings available depends on the Aniimo’s Resonance Star Rank, growth stage and level.
Our Potential and Capability Awakening guide covers strategy.
Resonance Star-Up
Under Aniimo Training → Resonance:
- Spend Dewdrop Crystals to add stars: base attributes such as ATK and HP rise step by step.
- At max stars for the current stage, spend Elemental Stones and other items to ascend and unlock stronger bonuses.
Dewdrop Crystals, Elemental Stones and Star Dust come from defeating Alphas (see the Institute Guide routine).
Held Items
Unlocked when you reach Student III.
- A Held Item provides three kinds of buffs: a Base Attribute Bonus, a Core Effect and an Advanced Effect. Match them with the Aniimo’s combat traits.
- Enhancing: consume other Held Items or Held Item Cores (pick them manually or auto-fill). Each level raises the item’s base attributes by a fixed percentage.
- Max level by rarity:
| Quality | Max level |
|---|---|
| Blue | 5 |
| Purple | 10 |
| Gold | 15 |
- Where to get them: defeating Alphas, and the Holo-Battle Sim after beating a stage’s Alpha or Omega. Cores mostly come from Alphas too.
- Pact Held Items: equipped on Lunara or Helion, they unlock unique effects and boost their core skills. Pact materials come from catching Alpha Aniimo.
Skills and traits
The Skills button on the right of Aniimo Management lists learned combat skills. You can learn new ones or adjust the equipped set. A newly learned skill can be equipped automatically as an active skill. Each Aniimo family also has its own traits.
Hatching
- You find eggs while exploring: on branches, by cliffs, in streams.
- Hatchinators are available at Outposts, in Astra and in your Homeland.
- Higher-quality eggs take longer to hatch.
- Hatched Aniimo can come with different personalities and traits, and there is a tiny chance of a Sparkling Aniimo.
- In the Homeland, you and your friends can pet the Hatchinator to speed up incubation.
An Aniimo’s personality doesn’t change with levels or evolution: you need a Psyche Fruit, sold in the shop.
Releasing and Inheritance
Release: in Aniimo Management, enter Manage mode, select the Aniimo, then Release (a confirmation screen opens first). The Aniimo returns to Idyll and leaves you a farewell gift. Items spent on Resonance star-ups and ascensions are fully refunded; levelling items are partially refunded.
Inheritance: it only works from a fully developed Aniimo to a less developed one. Level, Resonance and Capability progress carry over, and excess materials are returned in full. The tutorial notes that the Awakening count can be passed on this way to an Aniimo of the same family.
Appearance and Transmog
- Appearance: equip accessories on your Aniimo, change their hairstyle, redo their face and more. Outfits and accessories come from quests, the Shop and other sources.
- Aniimo Transmog: change color, wings, body, headwear and effects with Radiant Dreamshadow and Glimmering Driftshadow. Reaching a cumulative number of transmogs unlocks more parts.
Healing your Aniimo
- Healer Kim at the Outpost heals injured Aniimo.
- Bonfires steadily restore your nearby Aniimo’s HP.
- RV Parks restore HP continuously.
When an Aniimo can’t keep fighting, BINI #9 suggests taking it to the Outpost doctor or a nearby Bonfire. To make the most of your party afterwards, read the combat basics.
Frequently asked questions
Why won’t my Aniimo level up anymore?
An Aniimo’s level is limited by your character level, which is itself capped by your title. Promote your title through Elite Training to lift the cap.
Do I lose my materials when I release an Aniimo?
Not all of them. Items spent on Resonance star-ups and ascensions are fully refunded, some levelling items are partially refunded, and the Aniimo leaves you a farewell gift.
What is the Potential limit?
Each of the six attributes has Innate and Acquired Potential, and their sum can never exceed 20.
What happens when my storage is full?
You can’t catch any new Aniimo, not even an Alpha, until you make room. BINI #9 warns you when only 10, then 1, slot is left.
